And I must repeat, you can still fly that flag all you want in...

And I must repeat, you can still fly that flag all you want in private property. It just doesn’t belong on public property, and people making the conscious choice to divorce themselves from it are making their own personal choice to do so. You can choose not to. But doing so only tells everyone you don’t care what it really stands for. For those whose ancestors were enslaved, it’s not a Rorschach test. You don’t get to justify it by waxing poetic about what it means to you. It meant this. This is its history. This is solid historical fact. If you have to dodge facts so much to justify something, you might not really want to be associated with it.

By the way, I don’t exactly wave American flags either. I know this country’s history and I’m not particularly proud of it either. But no, the two are not the same by any means.
