No, Mr. Schneider. It’s just that people now understand what that symbol represented after years of being told it was perfectly innocent. TV Land decided not to have that symbol on its show. That symbol never represented anything but a fight to protect slavery, no matter how much people were unaware and thought it was just a neato little innocent symbol. Sorry, and we don’t mean to be mean. It’s just that we prefer history to be as accurate as possible, and not whitewashed because of what you want things to mean for your own sensitivities. And while you’re telling the descendents of the slaves to get over it and that it’s just a symbol, you’re proving you can’t get over it and let a symbol go. You don’t care that its evil meaning and purpose insulted their ancestors but you demand respect for your heritage. And your heritage did incredible evils to theirs, and then fought under that banner to preserve their right to keep doing it.
Please stop trying to whitesplain this flag and actually learn history yourself, because we’re well aware of the history here. You’re the ones trying to tapdance around the facts.
